How to Add the Aeon Labs Appliance Switch to a Wink Hub

I’ll go ahead and get out of the way the fact that using the Wink hub you won’t get the energy monitoring feature. I was ok with that because the switch was still cheaper than others I’d seen that only did on and off and this one has a feature I really like that I’ll mention in a moment.

First we have to turn on “inclusion” mode in the Wink app. This allows us to add generic Z-wave products.

  1. Go to the Home Page in the app
  2. Click on Hubs
  3. Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the hub screen
  4. Select your hub (you may only have one listed)
  5. Select “Z-Wave Controls” under the settings section
  6. Click on Inclusion Mode

It should say “successful” after a few seconds if it worked. Next we need to go back to the home screen. There are now more products available to add in the menus.

From the home screen:

  1. Click on the plus sign to add a product
  2. Select “Lights”
  3. Select “ZWave Light”
  4. Click Next at Step 1
  5. At Step 2 Click Next or select a different Hub if needed and then hit next.
  6. At Step 3 plug in the Aeon Swith and hold in the button. If it doesn’t pair in a about 10 seconds then release the button and push it in and hold it again. Once paired it should turn from blinking blue to solid on the switch.
  7. Name the Switch (It will show up as a light)

I tried it as a switch and could not get it to pair but I do wish it would. If you get it to work that way please let me know how.

Now that it’s paired simply use it as an on/off plug by turning it on or off in the “Lights” menu of the App.

The feature I really like about these that many other add on plug adapters don’t seem to have is the button. If someone locally wants to turn on the item plugged into the switch and I’m not available they can simply press the button and it turns on (or off). I then can simply use the app to change it without having to press the button again.

I hope this has been helpful!
